Biology
Bananas are bi-pedal fruits with tough yellow skin and are suited to rocky oxygen worlds with humid, tropical climates. The
typical banana averages 15cm in height with a mass of about 120g, although a wide variation exists among different subspecies. They possess above
average strength and agility, but have a poor sense of smell and bad hearing. The Banana's thick outer skin, or peel, helps protect the inner flesh
from exposure to the atmosphere which can lead to death by oxidation. Bananas are sexless and are grown on trees in large bunches. The growth
period for a banana is about 150 days and once ripe, they awaken to become fully functional adults. The growth process can occur naturally or
can be achieved artificially as in most modern cases, including the bio-engineering of Banana soldiers and workers. Bananas require a diet rich
in carbohydrates and a few minerals including potassium to sustain their metabolic requirements. Their lifespans range from 20-35 years depending
on their subspecies, although common Bananas rarely live beyond 20.
Society
The Banana Star Empire is a pseudo-military dictatorship under the rule of the Supreme General who is elected by
the Supreme Council, composed of 100 elite military officials, every 4 years. Many Supreme General hopefuls scheme their way to the top through
bribery and assassinations that often lead to rapid turnovers in power. The general population is kept loyal through the relentless watch of the
Peel Guard Intelligence Service that quickly puts end to any dissension against the regime. There are few rights for most Bananas and life tends
to filled with work and little else. Banana military leaders represent the upper echelons of Banana society, followed by Banana soldiers, and
lastly by common Banana workers. A Banana's cultural status is determined by it's intended function during the growing process, with few
exceptions. The Banana economy is mostly agricultural with well-developed mining and heavy industry mainly controlled by the government, which
employs most of the Banana laborers. Most Bananas reside in large urban centers located in the canopies of tropical forests, although some live on
the ground where the environment dictates it.
History
For hundreds of years, Bananas lived in small communities throughout their world living simple but harsh lives. The
advent of mass agriculture and new technology was followed by a huge population explosion and introduced regional rivalries for resources and
land. The Bananas endured years of conflict leaving their culture ruined with rampant starvation and large areas of the planet desolate. The final
series of wars ended with armies from the tropics leading a campaign of subjugation and dominance capped by the emergence of the first Supreme
General. Alternating periods of stability and rebellion followed, but the military has been able to maintain control. In recent times, efforts
have been made to re-invest in the economy and industrial infrastructure to qualm the potential for dissent by the population. These reforms have even
gone as far to develop space vehicles and technologies to exploit abundant resources that lie behind the Banana homeworld.
