Biology
Carrots are a veggienoid species that are bi-pedal with leafy foliage decorating their heads and thick orange bodies that gently taper from top to bottom. They prefer the cold climates of icy planets with oxygen-based atmospheres. The average Carrot stands 12-15cm in height and carries a mass of 100-125g. Carrots have excellent eyesight thanks to an abundance of vitamin A produced by their bodies and their tough skin helps Carrots cope with hostile environments. Carrots grow from seeds produced by female Carrots that are fertilized by males. The seed begins to germinate in less than 50 days, with a fully grown Carrot emerging after another 80-100 days of growth. Carrots require a mixture of complex carbohydrates and vitamins for bodily maintenance, but can survive for relatively long durations without food in part to their low metabolic rates. The Carrot lifespan ranges from 20-30 years, although some Carrots have reached ages beyond 40 when nutritional resources are abundant.

Society
The Carrot Imperium operates under a modified feudal system. The Imperator is the absolute ruler, obtaining the position through heredity, and is served by the Imperial Council. Under the Imperator are the Barons who operate large territorial regions on behalf of the Imperator, including the enforcement of laws, the collection of taxes, and addressing the needs and concerns of the population. However, military forces are under the sole control of the Imperator as well as the Intelligence service to ensure the continued support of the Barons and citizens. Merchants and workers are equivalent to peasants in the traditional sense, providing the majority of the labor for the Imperium's economy, but in part to technological advances and abundant resources, the quality life has increasingly improved. Carrots are adept at harvesting inorganics and related processing industries, but the nature of their preferred habitat leads to poor organics yields and has led to increased reliance on artificial methods to meet the demand for organics and food. Most carrots reside in vast underground communities, although the xenophobic nature of the Carrots has continued in pronounced prejudice between Carrots of different regions, and has led to little intermixing between them.

History
Throughout most of their past, the Carrots were divided into various tribes and clans scattered across the planet by the harsh climate of the Carrot homeworld. Conquest and amalgamation led to the formation of larger Carrot factions, but interaction between them was still sparse. Isolated pockets of Carrot culture development independently of each other for hundreds of years. A warming climate brought the thaw, and opened up many new routes of travel. Emerging from the equatorial region was an aggressive and advanced Carrot faction that seized the opportunity to expand and conquered many of the other cultures forming the beginnings of the Carrot Imperium. The Imperium has maintained an iron-fisted rule, and rebellion has met with severe retribution. The Imperium's network of Barons and military force has been able to maintain control for hundreds of years. Dwindling resources and signs of climate change and forcing the Imperium to look to new frontiers to continue their rule.
